The Bermagui Bridge we cross today is a replacement for two previous wooden bridges from 1888 and the 1920s

'The first wooden bridge was opened 9th September, 1888 superseding the need for horses and carts to ford the river at low tide near the end of River Road South or to cross by punt from the old river wharf. By 1920's the Bermagui bridge was in poor and dangerous condition so a second wooden bridge was constructed beside the original bridge. The southern end of both these bridges was approx at the present boat ramp. The third and current concrete bridge was officially opened 16th December, 1981 at a cost of $900,000. Sister Pearl Corkhill of Tilba Tilba, aged 95 was present at all three bridge openings.'
