Born in Melbourne in 1967, I moved to Wollongong on the South Coast of NSW when I was 9 years old. In 1990 I started a career in Graphic Design, working in a design studio, commercial printery and a cycling magazine company. I have been a full time artist since 2013, exhibiting in group and solo shows. In September 2017 I moved to a small property in Bermagui on the Sapphire Coast of NSW. As a child, our family holidays were camping trips - either inland by a river, or in the scrubby bushland by the sea. My parents instilled in me an appreciation for our beautiful country, a deep respect for our unique wildlife and the simple joy of just observing. The emphasis of my work is seascapes, beach scenes and water study, with a strong connection to the land. I create pieces that link to my love of the outdoors, native animals and bird life. Working with acrylic on canvas or linen and pigment pencils on paper, I choose to create images that are calming, nostalgic and reflective. I’d like the viewer to be drawn into my art and find it something that stirs them. For me this is the ultimate goal.
I also have a collection of home decor available at grimmhewitt67.redbubble.com
